Why we publish a page for every area

Because the answer genuinely changes from one part of the county to the next, and for reasons that have more to do with the housing and the geography than distance.

The most consequential is disposal. Every area we serve routes to the Polk County North Central Landfill in Auburndale, and we already know that routing, run a properly tarped truck, and carry the licensing the commercial-hauler landfill now requires. It is the same system county-wide, but a local hauler saves you the multi-facility problem wherever you are.

The second is the housing. The newer subdivisions toward Haines City, Davenport and the LEGOLAND corridor give up bulky, light material that wants a larger container; the older downtown Winter Haven, Bartow and Lake Wales homes give up dense debris that wants a smaller one; and the lakefront and rural properties are a category of their own.

The rest is common to the whole county: the curbside carts that take only household garbage, the county hazardous-waste routes, and the sandy soil and soft lakefront ground that shape where a container can sit. Each area page below covers the access, the routing and what to expect on the ground.
